Apparently, people were too busy putting away their white clothes after Labor Day and we had a thin turnout for tonights ride.
Well, not as thin as I thought, it turns out. Adam and Jake were at the shop, and when we got to the turnoff, no one was there. I'm so used to running late, I just figured that was it, and we headed up to Timpanooeke. While Jake and I were shuttling back up to get my truck after the ride, Adam met up with Bill and Sally who had just missed us at the bottom. Not to be denied a ride, they headed up to the Summit and had their own adventure.
Sorry kids, that ones on me.
It wasn't a very glorious ride for me. I was feeling pretty off for most of the climb. I have felt sluggish on a lot of Wednesday rides lately and I figure it's because working all day removes all the joy and enthusiasm from my soul,......sending me into a black pit of despai.......Oh wait a minute,...what just happened? Did I black out?
Anyway, a rough day at work, coupled with a connubialis malum(unfortunate rug burn) and my normal fat guy problems left me gasping for air and sweating like Parrish at the Hair Salon. I can do better than that,.....my heart was pounding like Brady's at the House of Denim. That's more like it. Suffice it to say, I was hating it.
Usually this problem goes away when gravity tips in my favor. But about half way down Mud Springs I was still feeling lousy and was pretty sure I was going to vomit. Not cool. I put my foot down a half dozen times between the Mud Springs intersection and the dam. Just to get my balance back. It felt a lot like it did back when I had to put a foot down out of the bed to get rid of the spins. That was a long time ago. Aaaaah memories.
Finally caught back up to Jake and Adam at the bottom though and managed to get home without hurling. I think I must have got a bad breakfast burrito or something, still a little off. At least more than usual.
The good news is, I've signed on for a gut-wrenching death march Saturday so that should be interesting. I'll let you know if I survive.

There has been much said lately about the Tibble Fork Trail being "dead". Damage from motos has convinced some people that it will never be the same.
They're wrong.
We started at Timpanooeke and headed up to Ridge Trail. We had eight riders who started with us.
Here's Chad, Paul Zimm-the-man, Whitney(yes he's a dude) and Spencer.Tyler and his girlfriend Laurie were there again. Not a good shot but whaddyawantUp the trail a ways, Brady and Kyle had started early. Brady is a little self-conscious about his climbing skills and his fashion choices. Since SomeDude made fun of his shorts the other night, he made another bold mountain bike fashion statement. Riding in 90 degree heat in a black t-shirt and jeans. Nobody ever accused Brady of not being willing to suffer for his fashion.
Not long after we arrived at the four-way, Spencer came rolling up a little off the back. It ends up that his crank had stripped out and his right pedal fell off. So he now faced the prospect of the descent to the reservoir without a pedal. Though he is getting used to limping his bike back to the truck, I'm not sure he's been on a ride with us that he hasn't had some sort of major mechanical. Kid's hard on bikes.
Which brings us to the Tibble Fork Trail. We rode up Tibble on my Birthday Death March. And at the time I was too bleary-eyed to pay attention. But this is the first chance I had to check it out as normal people ride it(down). There were/are exactly two ruts on the trail. About 20 feet long, and maybe eight inches deep. I did however find a way to jam my wheel into one and crash. I would even go as far as to say that I have seen the trail in worse shape. So, I would say that although it was dead, it has risen back to life. There's an object lesson in there somewhere.
I don't want to say I was right, but I was right. This trail gets so much traffic, that once it dries out it gets tromped into moon dust which mostly settles back into the ruts and fills them in. Tibble's fine, quit whining.
The evidence of the trail quality is in the smiles of those who ride it once they get to the bottom. Oh look, it's Gard Nelson joining us for a ride. Still no granny ring on that 35 lb bike.
Also note that Brady not the only doughhead that rode in jeans.
