Pemberton To Poop-Chute

By Joshua on May 19, 2010

I am pleased to announce that my weather curse has successfully been passed along to ZenMasterKenny.  He and Meg went to Fruita last weekend and got rained out the second day.  As for me, despite forecasts of rain,  I just got back from an awesome ride on the Timp Trail Network.  The sun was shining, temperature was mild, and the trails were a perfect mix of tacky and fast.

Started out with a few of the regulars, Zimm-The-Man, Skid, and Nick(oderm CQ)we soon met up with Evil Kenny and Ben from the shop.  Shortly after that  Kerry from URMB caught up with us.  The thing about the Timp trails is there is no easy way up.  Every one of them goes straight up or down.

We rode from Timp Park up to the race course, then picked up way up to the altar via Betty.  A few of us are still a little puffy from winter.  So the climb was a little interesting.  Amazingly, Evil Kenny waited for us.

Here's Ben waiting for the rest while "rocking" the new shop jersey...Stunning!

All the more impressive from the front.

All the more impressive from the front.

A big round of applause goes to Nick for his first visit to the altar.

I thought I could, I thought I could, I thought I could.

I thought I could, I thought I could, I thought I could.

We headed west toward the 051 forest service trail and rode up it to check out the overlook.  Glad we did it was killer.

Auto Stitch is bitchin.

Auto Stitch is bitchin.

From there is was a bomb down Ireland(insert Josh is Irish joke/line here).  It is narrow gauge, fast, seductive singletrack.  Spitting out on the Water Tank road, we dropped down the last little section of trails which have my favorite names ever.  Pemberton(named for the cul-de-sac it leads to)  and Poop-Chute(named for the brown line in your chamois after you drop it brakeless) .  You don’t really get the full effect of the names unless you stated that you just rode “Pemberton to Poop Chute)  These trails are not exactly built to Forest Service specifications, and there was an overpowering smell of burning brakes when we regrouped at the bottom.

It turned out to be an awesome ride.  A tough climb followed by some fun fast downhill.  So much so that my ears popped on the water tank road.

Thanks for leading us around tonight Evil Kenny.  I may start calling you by your real name soon.

  1. About time did you forget we live in a microwave society. Wish I could have met up with you but had a prior engagement. You have to try the 51 down to dry canyon one of these times I’m telling you you would like it.

Now if we can just get a dry spell Saturday around rightish.

  4. I’ bummed I couldn’t make the ride. That’s good stuff you rode.

I’ve always called that last trail Bramber (because that’s the street it dumps onto). But you have to like the name Poop Chute.

I agree with Bill, the ride over to Dry Canyon is good. There’s also a loop over to the south side of Provo Canyon that’s fun. Come ride again.

  5. I’ve ridden Dry Canyon but it was one of the all time worst rides of my life(sheared derailleur, blown rear shock) I remember it being fun despite my struggles.

  6. I enjoyed the ride. Thanks everyone for waiting even though I told you not too. That is pure love you guys have. I was very proud of Paul for waiting for all of us. There will come a day when I am not the one that the group is waiting for.
