Eagle Mountain

By Joshua on April 11, 2010

On short notice I met Chad Yates out in Eagle Mountain for a little ride yesterday.  More of a recon mission than anything to see what the trail conditions were like.   We started at the Bike Park and headed up over the hill into the dry-farm.  Things were plenty dry and rideable with nothing particularly interesting until we crested the ridge just north of the Flintstone trail, and spotted this:

There was more camo than a Toby Keith concert and more than one dirty looked pointed our way.  Luckily, Skippy in the orange vest informed us that there was to be a paintball competition starting soon and we had better get out of the way.  We assured him we’d be off the ridge within twenty minutes and he “allowed” us to proceed.  As we rode away I’m pretty sure I heard somebody mention something about a purty mouth.

We made it safely over to the top of the Flintstone trail and started down.  It seems we as mountain bikers are making friends all over.  A plastic sign asking equestrians to respect the work that has gone into the trails and stay off them had been added to by somebody who’s favorite word rhymes with truck.  There has been a lot of work going on out there and the trails are in great shape.

Lots of berms, and a few new features.  The only thing missing on this trail continues to be a viable route back to the top.  The options are still push your bike back up, or cruise cul-de-sacs back to the bike park.

There is at least one killer new feature out there, behold…..

IMG_4155 (Small)What can only be described as a gi-gumbous teeter-totter.  To give you and idea of it’s size, here’s Chad rallying it.

  1. Some of those paintballers have really let themselves go.

  2. First you set up a shot of me coming around a berm just so you can get some camera time for your sexy new bike with sexy new wheels. Nobody’s going to even notice there was somebody actually riding their bike in that shot. Then you turn around and out me on the bogus teeter-totter setup and don’t even post up the pics of you doing the same thing. Thanks a lot!! Glad we didn’t take any paintballs to the back of the head as we rode away though.

  3. I don’t know what your talking about! We both owned that thing. I’m just too modest to post the pictures of me.

  4. Those plastic equestrian signs would come in handy during the upcoming trail work season. Do you know where we can get them and what the cost per thousand would be.

    That trail looks fun too.
