Utah Cyclocross Race #4

By Joshua on October 24, 2009
Fresh off the presses, which in this case means Riley’s mom’s scrapbooking shape cutter thing.  Are the new Team Clammy Chamois team issue frame stickers.  Available in colors to match your bike.   The stickers debuted at this mornings race and were a huge hit.  We’ll probably have to make them commercially available.  I had at least two people ask me about them.

Besides the stickers, we had a killer team showing this week.  Riley flaked out because he was so tired from pressing all of our stickers, and Ryan Hamilton is still missing in action as far as team races are concerned.  I am assured that he will be there next week(because I have assured him that I will actually come through with the promise of Bratwurst).  But, Wes Rasmussen wins best recruiter award.  Not only did Wes join our ranks…. but he brought with him Clay Adair and Patrick Davis.  I didn’t expect too much since Patrick doesn’t have a cross bike yet.  He rides a singlespeed Gary Fisher mountain bike.  And I had only met the two of them once.  Chatted them up a little before the ride, and found out the Pat had flatted out last week.  So the race starts and I’m suffering as usual.  I have a deep rooted hatred of the Draper course, it just doesn’t favor slow fat guys.  The good news is, with the big climb and the length of the course, we only ended up doing four laps.  As I heard the winners being called out ahead of me, I noticed Pat climbing the hill to the finish line.   My first thought was….”Poor simple guy, racing this category on a singlespeed, he must have gotten lapped.”   I finished my race,  resisted the urge to puke and waited for results to post.

To my surprise, Pat had not only not been lapped, but he came in third!  And Clay Adair, came in fifth!   Holy buckets!  We’ve got contendors on this team.  They are my new favorite team members(Sorry everybody else).  Kerry, Wes, and I managed to keep the back of the pack in line.  Okay, I’ll brag,  I kept the middle of the pack in line.    And Wes didn’t get lapped.  But Kerry did.  Sorry Kerry.
The only non “C” category racer on the team was Brad Thurgood.  And he managed to pull off a fourth place finish in the 10-14 Junior division.

I’m just impressed that we are actually going to have team points.
Go Team Clammy Chamois!
